Gilmore Girls home goes up for sale

The original home of Lorelai and Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls is now for sale for the first time in 26 years. The Gothic Revival house, built in 1875, stands in Unionville, Ontario, which doubled as the fictional Stars Hollow, Connecticut, during the show’s pilot episode.

The property is listed by Sylvia Morris of Century 21 Leading Edge Realty for C$3.8 million (US$2.76 million). It covers 2,840 square feet and includes three bedrooms, three fireplaces, and original wood-beamed ceilings. A wraparound veranda, white shutters, and pastel teal clapboard siding frame the exterior, which sits on a private lot overlooking a ravine.

The house that launched a thousand coffee runs

The show’s opening scene, where Lorelai crosses Unionville’s Main Street to enter Luke’s Diner, was filmed just steps from this home. The town’s Victorian-era architecture and historic storefronts provided the setting for early episodes, including shots of Kim’s Antiques and Miss Patty’s dance studio.

Though the house appeared only in the pilot, its appeal has lasted. Inside, original details remain, such as knotty wood-plank flooring, a red-brick chimney, and a hand-forged fireplace crane from 1850. The exterior doors, dating to the 1860s, still have their original hardware, according to the listing.

The property has changed hands just five times in nearly 150 years. It was expanded in the 1950s and 1990s to add a modern kitchen and an extra bedroom. The current owner bought it in 1994 but has mostly rented it out since then. Morris did not respond to requests for comment.

A piece of TV history with modern touches

The listing also includes a historic outbuilding that once served as the village bakery from 1910 to 1984. Now updated with a bathroom and modern utilities, it could work as an office, studio, or guest space.

The main residence has a private deck with a separate entrance and a finished basement that includes a guest suite. Unionville, part of Markham in the Greater Toronto Area, is about 30 minutes from downtown Toronto.

For fans, the sale presents a rare opportunity to own part of the show’s early charm, though the rest of Gilmore Girls was filmed on a California set. The combination of preserved history and subtle updates may explain why interest extends beyond nostalgia.

Homes tied to popular series rarely come on the market.

Those who remember the show’s cozy, fast-paced world might see this as the next best thing to moving in themselves.
