Gilmore Girls Original Home Enters Market

The “Gilmore Girls” original home in Unionville, Ontario, has hit the market for the first time since its brief appearance in the series premiere 26 years ago, offering fans a rare chance to own the house that stood in for Lorelai and Rory’s fictional abode in Stars Hollow.

Historic property details and sale price

The Gothic Revival structure dates back to 1875 and sits on Victoria Avenue, a private lot that overlooks a small ravine and is bordered by a row of hedges. The two‑story house features gabled roofs, a wraparound veranda, white shutters and pastel teal clapboard siding, matching the look seen in the opening scene where Lorelai Gilmore walks down Main Street to order coffee at Luke’s Diner.

Inside, the home spans 2,840 square feet and includes three bedrooms, three fireplaces, original wood‑beamed ceilings and knotty wood‑plank flooring. Period details such as circa‑1900 porch lights, an 1850 hand‑forged fireplace crane and exterior doors from the 1860s with their original hardware remain intact.

According to Sylvia Morris of Century 21 Leading Edge Realty, who listed the property earlier this month, the asking price is C$3.8 million (about US$2.76 million). The seller, who has owned the property since 1994, has primarily rented it out in recent years and could not be reached for comment.

Modifications, outbuildings and surrounding area

The house has changed hands only five times. Renovations in the 1950s and 1990s added a modern kitchen and an extra bedroom above it. A finished basement houses a guest suite, and a private deck with its own entrance provides additional outdoor space.

On the same parcel stands a historic outbuilding that served as the village bakery from 1910 to 1984. The structure now includes a bathroom and modern utilities, making it suitable for conversion into an office, studio or extra guest accommodation.

Unionville is a neighborhood within Markham, part of the Greater Toronto Area, located roughly 30 minutes from downtown Toronto. Its Victorian‑era homes and preserved Main Street were used as the backdrop for several iconic locations in the show, including Luke’s Diner, Kim’s Antiques and Miss Patty’s dance studio.

While the property’s charm lies in its connection to a beloved TV series, prospective buyers will also weigh its practical attributes. The combination of historic character and updated amenities could appeal to both fans and investors seeking a unique residence in a sought‑after suburban market.

Collectors will watch closely.

The listing may attract attention beyond the typical real‑estate crowd. The rarity of a television‑linked home entering the market for the first time could drive interest from nostalgia‑driven buyers and those simply drawn to the property’s architectural pedigree.
